Strawberry rose finishing sugar

This recipe was formulated around Valentines day, which is after all the month of love isn’t it? While contemplating what exactly that means for me, as a chef loving myself obviously has a ton to do with how I feed myself. And how the different foods we eat can and do contribute to our mood. Combining simple herbs in simple recipes de-complicates the process of accessing deeper parts of ourselves through food medicine and making the process FUN and SWEET. As seen here in my herbal finishing sugar! I chose rose because it’s delightful in flavor but also a beautiful plant inside and out. Its compounds help soften what ails the heart and remind us of the deep love within ourselves and around us. Sensual, and calming. Strawberry lends its tartness to round out the flavors of rose and the sweetness of pure, raw organic cane sugar. Simple, and versatile, this finishing sugar can go on top of baked goods, fruit, desserts, bread, cheese, mixed with honey and beyond. Please enjoy!

RECIPE

INGREDIENTS
¼ cup red rose petals, dried

¼ cup freeze dried strawberries, crushed finely

½ cup raw organic turbinado sugar

METHOD:
In a food processor pulse the freeze dried strawberries into fine crumbles, remove and add to a bowl, repeat this process with the red roses and add to the same bowl, then add sugar and toss with your hands. Store in an airtight container. Add to fruit, yogurt, desserts, or hot beverages and beyond.

Enjoy!
